An experiment in shared gardening
The Turin Garden Project existed to nurture community, to grow food sustainably and to demonstrate permaculture gardening. In the summer of 2020 we moved over 5 cubic yards of mulch onto the garden creating a natural 'water sponge' in the typically dry climate of Southern Alberta. We installed a drip irrigation system and two 5000l water tanks. We planted raspberries, borage, dill, cucumber, carrots, beans, beets, squash, peas and more. The garden attracted an array of bugs, birds and bees. All the ingredients are in place to create a resilient and sustainable grow space.
There is an oppportunity here for a young couple or energetic individual who wants to start a small market garden. The garden space described above is 125' x 125' but can easily be expanded to 2 acres. Previous tenants have had up to 20 chickens, there is a large garage and, being in a remote area the two-bedroom house is affordable for both renters and buyers.
