There really is no lack of great ideas when it comes to housing ourselves.
While we in the west struggle to create a supply of affordable housing for everyone, others in third world countries don’t face the same challenges we do. Our obstacles are mostly regulatory, bureaucratic and have to do with a dated financial system that makes ownership a challenge even for two-income families. But in many countries their struggle has more to do with resources, a workforce that lacks trade skills and they too have financial obstacles. Their regulations however are much less of a challenge. Which allows for an atmosphere of innovation and a willingness to try new things. This type of low-cost solution is a perfect example of what can happen when restrictions are few: https://thisisafrica.me/tateh-lehbib-breicas-houses-made-bottled-sand-helping-sahrawi-refugees/ Building something like this would be doable in Canada, but obviously not a permanent (year-round) solution. Nevertheless, it is inspiring to see!

Thanks for your input Ryan. I hear ya. We need change on many levels. And it is happening - albeit slowly.
