History of CLUCC
The presentation that was never given is here...
I've lost access to the slides but they only contained pictures and graphics that underscore the talking points.
The bottom of the document is a short list of anticipated questions and answers.
July 17, 2025
At city council the new CLUCC president, Bob H, asks the SPC to postpone the presentation. Next likeliest date given is February 2026. No other CLUCC members present are allowed to speak to this.

July 14, 2025
In an about face the new CLUCC president deems that we are 'not ready' -dismissing months of effort- to present. At the new boards first meeting they make a motion , to stop the presentation from happening. The vote passes 5-2.
July 10, 2025
At the CLUCC AGM the president steps down to allow for a new president to lead in the hopes that a new leader can move things ahead. Bob H is nominated by the existing president who will step back but remain on the board to help guide the Pilot Henkeeping program.
~July 2, 2025
Days ahead of the CLUCC AGM, their presentation is scheduled to be given on July 17th.
June 24th, 2025
One city councilor makes a motion to council that the CLUCC presentation be heard. Council votes in favour of the motion 7-2.
June 10, 2025
Amid continuing dissension CLUCC president calls for an AGM for July 10th.

June 6, 2025
Agenda Review Committee refuses to consider the CLUCC presentation. Questions arise as to the purpose and function of the ARC. CLUCC board is in disarray as 4 resignations are given, citing leadership concerns. There are demands that the president step down immediately.
June 3, 2025
Amid rumours that the issue is "too divisive" and "council does not want to handle such a contentious issue before elections in November", the CLUCC board has to decide if they want to go ahead or not. A meeting of the whole membership is called. We are swayed by one person's argument to move ahead. Bob H helps convince enough members to vote in favour of moving forward in a 12-3 vote.
APRIL 2025
Presentation is sent with documentation to the city clerk for submission to the Agenda Review Committee.  As understood by CLUCC, the ARC is there to vet all submissions and to ensure everything is in place before going to the Standing Social Policy Committee (SPC).
FEBRUARY  to APRIL 2025
CLUCC works on a proposal to present to the city to run a chicken pilot project.
DECEMBER 2024
Citizens of Lethbridge Urban Chicken Club is recognized as a non-profit organization by AB govt.
NOVEMBER 2024
The city regulatory department presents to the city Standing Policy Committee an updated Animal Bylaw with a mention that CLUCC aims to run a pilot program in 2025. They will present to the same committee at a meeting in the new year.
OCTOBER 2024
We've created a proposal and have met with city administrators who have coached us on how to move it foward for eventual council approval. Timelines for that approval put us into January 2025. The wheels of governance turn slowly. But they do turn.
SEPTEMBER 2024
We sent the application to AB registries to form a society. Did a name search and discovered the name we asked for was accepted. We are the Citizens of Lethbridge Urban Chicken Club...CLUCC!!
AUGUST 2024
On Wednesday August 21st there will be a gathering of "chicken people" who want to bring legal chickens to Lethbridge. We will meet at 636 22 St North in Lethbridge, AB.  The group is forming and now is the time to come out and help create a dynamic, fun and effective organization working to make chickens a part of today's sustainable solutions.
APRIL 2024
Change is in the air. People are organizing to bring legal chickens to Lethbridge. Combined with a complete review of the animal bylaws we have the best opportunity possible to make that happen.
If you'd like to be part of this exciting movement towards greater food sustainability let me know by calling or texting me at the number at the bottom of this page. I can give you meeting times and places or at the very least, get you onto an email list to keep you informed of developments.
JANUARY 2024
The order to rid of my chickens was completed. Gratefully the chickens went to a safe home. The movement to make chickens legal in Lethbridge is still alive and clucking!
NOVEMBER 2023
This decision will go one of 3 ways; cancel the order, enforce the order or vary the order.
The pro-chicken crowd in this city are expecting that Lethbridge will follow suit of other cities and towns in Alberta in allowing chickens - possibly by the end of 2024. So while even cancelling the order would be the easy way out for myself it is still not the best outcome for all.
The most ideal outcome would be a variance that includes collective learning, community engagement and sharing of ideas. Many jurisdictions who now allow chickens started with a pilot program. This and a dozen other chicken coops throughout the city could serve as a type of pilot program. Residents could be allowed under a type of exemption to share their experiences with those who do the actual writing of the bylaw. Those citizens who step up to keep chickens and share their experience may need written permission from their neighbours. Any way you serve this up will be a win for all.
By serving the needs of residents Lethbridge could leap ahead and easily lead the province towards being more of an agri-food hub with a wider base of support.

OCTOBER 2023
An order was received from the Animal Bylaw Enforcement Officer to remove my chickens. The order stated "any person who receives a written order, may by written notice request council of the City of Lethbridge to review the order within 14 days after it has been received". This has been done and the city clerk helped set up a public hearing.

There are an increasing number of jurisdictions that are allowing chickens. The reasons are clear - chickens provide protein, incredible fertilizer, pest control and are easy to maintain. But for me, the biggest reason for keeping chickens is to get more control of my food supply.

OCTOBER 2022
A petition was created with over 500 names which was subsequently handed to city administration. This is on the public record. Thank you to the following local businesses who supported this petition.
